National Capital Region Police Office chief Oscar Albayalde reported on Tuesday that his office has recorded 68 shooting incidents involving motorcycle riding-in-tandem suspects which had remain unsolved since the police force returned on the war against illegal drugs.

According to data provided by his office, a total of 77 shooting incidents involving riding of tandem shooter occurred from Dec. 5 last year to March 13.

Out of the 77, only nine of these incidents have been solved and cases were filed against identified suspects, Albayalde said.

The NCRPO chief said that Philippine National Police chief Director General Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa has ordered them to focus on solving riding-in-tandem cases.

“We are trying on the solution itong mga cases na ‘to, ito yung instruction ni chief. Actually, he [has] given instruction to give focus on the solution of these cases,” Albayalde said.

Still, Albayalde said that the 77 unresolved shooting incidents could not be considered as alarming as the police have not been remiss on their duties.

“As much as possible, sabi nga ni chief, kung hindi man lang ma-zero, ma-minimize talaga yung mga ganyang incidents, yung mga riding-in-tandem incidents, yung motorcycle riding suspects, ito yung direktiba ng ating chief PNP,” he said.

“Although inaamin natin hindi talaga natin kaya ma-zero ‘yan, remember we still have problems on loose firearms not only here in Metro Manila, the whole country ‘yan,” he added.

Dela Rosa had ordered his men to go after motorcycle-riding criminals since October.

Two months after, in December last year, President Rodrigo Duterte ordered the PNP to resume its anti-illegal drugs operations but with the Philippine Drug Enforcement remaining as the lead agency.
