DoST sees more Pagasa professionals

Secretary Fortunato dela Peña of the Department of Science and Technology on Friday said he is looking forward to a more professionalized pool of employees belonging to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration by 2022.

At a news conference at the Pagasa’s Science Garden in Quezon City, the DoST chief said the human resources profile of Pagasa today compared to 20 years ago has more professional employees who have attained a much higher education.

“We have developed many people who have earned masters and doctor in philosophy degrees as their highest [educational] attainment,” he told reporters.

“I am looking forward by 2022 to have a big percentage of human resources here with masters and Ph.D degrees,” he said.

He said he wanted to see the weather bureau as a center of excellence not only in the Philippines “but worldwide” as well.
