Muntinlupa City is one of this year’s recipients of the Meralco Luminaries Awards, a recognition given to organizations and groups in the country for their outstanding initiatives in nation-building through a partnership with the electric company.

Manila Electric Co. president and chief executive Oscar Reyes, with Senior VP and Head of Customer Retail Services and Corporate Marketing Communication Al Panlilio, conferred the award for the Local Government Category to Mayor Jaime Fresnedi in a ceremony held at Shangri-La at the Fort last March 8.

Muntinlupa was cited for its strong commitment to sustainable urbanization through disaster-resilient and environmentally sound infrastructure projects, as exemplified by Centennial Avenue in Barangay Tunasan and all public buildings constructed along its stretch.

The City Government started building government facilities in the complex last 2015. Centennial Avenue is home to Muntinlupa Police’s Headquarters (the biggest police station in the National Capital Region), City Health Office, Schools Division of Muntinlupa, Child Development “Bulilit” Center, Gawad Kalinga Centennial Village, Muntinlupa National High School–Tunasan Annex, the soon-to-rise Muntinlupa Museum, and other offices.

The electric company lauded the ongoing construction development in the locality, which led to livelihood opportunities for the residents and was “a novel way of doing business through energy transmission.”
