The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia slammed former Senator Aquilino “Nene” Pimentel’s statement on Sabah claims, expressing a warning that such remarks may harm the excellent bilateral relationships of Kuala Lumpur and Manila.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Malaysian Foreign Affairs Minister Dati Sri Anifah Haji Aman maintained that Sabah is recognized by the United Nations and the international community as part of Malaysia since the formation of the Federation on Sept. 16, 1963.

“The Government of Malaysia reiterates its position that Malaysia does not recognise and will not entertain any claims by any party on Sabah,” Aman said.

Pimentel, who is a member of the charter change consultative committee, on Tuesday said that he has included Sabah as part of the Philippine territory in his proposed constitutional amendments.
