Vizcaya farmers get seeds and tools

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya—The provincial government has provided free seeds, training and fingerlings to various farmers this year to raise agricultural production in the province.

Absalon Rizal Baysa, PLGU’s senior aquaculturist, said they have distributed 1,159 bags of certified rice seeds, 50 bags of registered seeds, 2,699 packs of hybrid seeds, 992 bags of hybrid corn seeds, 1,192 bags of fertilizers, 200 bags of open-pollinated varieties, and 1,220 cans of assorted vegetable seeds this year under their Agri-inputs Support Services Program.

Baysa also said they have produced and given 1.2 million tilapia fingerlings and distributed 2,700 fliers and techno-guides.

Trainings to empower farmers were also provided such as 6 capability building for members of the Provincial Agriculture and Fisheries Councils, 4H clubs, Rural Improvement Clubs, and seed-grower associations in the province.

“We have also conducted consultative meetings for two organic practitioners/stakeholders to guide farmers in improving their production,” Baysa added.

Technology-demonstrations and hands-on training were also provided such as varietal trial for rice, calendar planting for corn and Gulayan sa Maisan to maximize agricultural production, he added.

These techno-demonstrations, Baysa said, focused on double row planting for corn, model rice clusters to nine municipalities covering 680 hectares, integrated farming, upland aquaculture, pond culture for tilapia, hito and freshwater prawn, modular farming and organic farming for tilapia, particularly in Quezon and Aritao towns.
