Christmas is quickly descending on us and everyone is rushing to finish his never-ending lists. To make this season of giving a truly meaningful one, Save the Kids Ph (STK), a non-profit organization made up of kids who want to help kids, came up with the idea of Kalinisan Kits. Margarita Te, STK’s founder and president says, “These are our organization’s version of ‘care packages’ and contains basic needs such as slippers, towel, soap, a toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner all in one attractive and reusable drawstring bag.”
“We’ve made the package hassle-free and convenient for people to give as donations to orphanages or street children, for example, and contain a gift tag also, if you opt to give the kits to those friends or family that are a little harder to give gifts to. They can then donate these to those who need it the most,” adds Martin Alindogan, co-founder and Vice President of Save the Kids Ph. The purchase of a kit, each sold at Php 200, will not only help Save the Kids with their outreach projects, but also encourage the recipients to maintain good health and proper hygiene.
The initial batch of thousands of kits were immediately sold out by the end of November, just a couple of weeks after its launch. Truly, so many benefactors are encouraged and willing to share their blessings this season.
Save the Kids Philippines is a non-profit organization that aims to help displaced and disadvantaged Filipino kids find their path towards a brighter future. The organization was established with the belief that providing food and basic needs during the aftermath of a devastating experience is not sufficient. The long path to recovery entails equipping them with the necessary tools to go beyond the difficulties they have faced. Because of this, STK came up with the S.A.V.E. Program – a four-pronged approach towards the kids going through the rehabilitation process. In this program, they explore various activities such as Skills-building, Art therapy, Values-formation and an Educational Activity in each carefully-chosen location. The absolute goal is to SAVE 10,000 kids by educating, empowering and uplifting their lives, and helping them build a better future.
The organization is constantly looking for high school student volunteers who can help in their outreach programs. If you are interested in helping end the poverty and exploitation plaguing our world today, or if you just generally enjoy helping for a cause, here are some things you could do:
