The Navotas City Government has conducted an employment forum to equip Navoteños with knowledge on labor rights, recruitment issues, and other matters pertaining to working here and abroad.
Some 250 students from the Navotas Polytechnic College and Navotas Manpower Training Center, together with Navotas residents, participated in the forum.
Participants learned about labor and occupation safety standards from the Department of Labor and Employment, programs and services of Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, and the anti-illegal recruitment campaign from the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration.
Some also applied for and secured employment from local companies as well as the Philippine Navy.
Mayor John Rey Tiangco, for his part, shared the city government’s dream for every Navoteño.
“We want Navoteños to have decent livelihood. We want you to earn enough for yourselves and your loved ones,” he said.
Tiangco also reminded the participants to take advantage of the upcoming programs of the city government.
The mayor also urged the participants to enroll at the NMTC for free Technology Skills and Development Authority courses on welding, automotive servicing, ref and aircon servicing, bread and pastry production, dressmaking, cosmetology, and others.
Tiangco added that the city government is working on the construction of two additional training centers to provide more opportunities for Navoteños to earn Tesda certifications and secure gainful employment.
