Globe Telecom Inc., a unit of Ayala Corp., said data-related revenues rose 6 percent in the first nine months to P51 billion from a year ago, led by the robust growth in mobile data business.
The company said data-related revenues accounted for more than half of the total service revenues of P95.1 billion in January to September.
Mobile data revenues in the nine-month period reached P31.3 billion, up 20 percent from P26.1 billion a year earlier, driven by higher data usage and the continued growth in smartphone penetration.
Mobile data traffic surged 73 percent in January to September to 430 petabytes from 249 PB a year earlier.
Mobile data revenues contributed 43 percent of total mobile revenues of P73.1 billion, a 7 percent increase from a year earlier.
Home broadband revenues in the first nine months reached P11.7 billion, an 8-percent hike from P10.9 billion a year earlier, driven by strong demand for fast and reliable internet access, with the home broadband customer base reaching 1.26 million at the end of the third quarter.
Corporate data revenue rose 4 percent to P7.6 billion, amid increasing demand for data connectivity, managed service solutions and cloud-based services that resulted in acceleration of its customer base and circuit count.
“With the company’s continued efforts to enhance our network’s data capacities, with the aim of providing a differentiated customer experience, we expect out data segments to drive revenue growth momentum moving forward,” Globe president and chief executive Ernest Cu said.
He said that the company’s capital expenditure in the first nine months reached P36.8 billion, about 84 percent of which were spent for enhancing data capacities and addressing the data service needs of its customers.
Capex allocation for data-related requirements have increased over the past several years, at 49 percent in 2014, 48 percent in 2015, 65 percent in 2016 and 84 percent this year.
