AF Payments Inc., a consortium led by Ayala Corp. and Metro Pacific Investments Corp., said it has developed an electronic payment systems for the government’s public utility jeepney modernization program.
“We are ready to support the Department of Transportation’s PUJ modernization program,” AF Payments president Peter Maher said Friday.
“We have developed a beep card service that is affordable to jeepney operators and will surely be appreciated by commuters in Metro Manila who have already purchased 4 million beep cards,” he added.
Beep card is a tap-and-go payment system accepted in all three elevated railways (LRT 1, LRT 2, and MRT 3), Manila-Cavite Expressway, North Luzon Expressway and at select bus lines, FamilyMart, and Robinsons Movieworld branches. It is reloadable and valid for up to four years.
The beep can also use to pay in P2P buses..
Under the government’s Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program, transport cooperatives and corporations can avail of financial assistance, on top of a government subsidy, to upgrade their fleet with low-carbon emission, safe and efficient units.
The program seeks to upgrade and modernize some 200,000 jeepneys over 15 years old with the modern PUV over the next three years.
