President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday named a former military man to sit at the Bases Conversion and Development Authority board, in a bid to utilize proceeds from the lease of military lands to fund the modernization of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and raise funds for the education of soldiers.
“Nobody is taking your land, it’s yours. Go into a joint venture or lease it on a long term. The money that is generated would be yours,” the President said in his speech during the Philippine Army’s change of command ceremony at Fort Bonifacio, Taguig.
“Lahat ng kikitain niyo, diretso sa inyo. Gawin niyo ang gusto niyong gawin to modernize,” he added.
To make good of his promise, Duterte named outgoing Philippine Army chief Lt. Gen. Glorioso Miranda to the BCDA, soon after relinquishing his post.
