The Palace on Wednesday said that there is no reason for the public to panic amid fears over the mosquito-borne disease Japanese encephalitis in the country.
“The government assures the public that it is closely monitoring cases of Japanese encephalitis in the country with the onset of the rainy season when transmission of the virus peaks because of the rise of the mosquito population,” Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella said in a statement.
We encourage the local government units to report and notify suspect cases of Japanese encephalitis,” he added.
Abella likewise said that the Health Department “is currently firming up plans to introduce vaccination among young children in 2018” amid rumors that cases of Japanese encephalitis have increased and there is a shortage of the vaccine against it.
