THE league meted out a one-game suspension on San Beda’s Robert Bolick and Clint Doliguez and coach Boyet Fernandez and St. Benilde’s Carlo Young for their misconduct in their 93rd NCAA basketball game at the Filoil Arena in San Juan City Tuesday.
“There were infractions that commissioner Bai (Cristobal) gave that suspended the three players and also coach Boyet (Fernandez),” said NCAA Management Committee chairman Fr. Glyn Ortega, OAR, yesterday.
Bolick was slapped the suspension for an elbow he threw after he was pulled down by Young in a fast break play with less than three minutes to go that led to his ejection.
Young was also tossed out for his dangerous foul, while Doliguez was thrown out for leaving the bench and coming to his teammate’s aid. It was the second time this season that he was suspended for a game.
As for Fernandez, he was sacked for “disrespecting officials” after their 72-58 win over St. Benilde Tuesday. It was his second offense after he committed the same infraction the previous game.
Bolick, Doliguez and Fernandez will serve their one-game ban in San Beda’s game against Mapua tomorrow, while Young will serve his versus unbeaten Lyceum of the Philippines University the same day.
The suspension disqualifies Bolick, Doliguez and Young from any individual award including the much-coveted MVP plum.
Among the suspended, Bolick suffered the most as he is currently sixth overall in an ultra-tight MVP race currently headed by Nigerian Prince Eze of Perpetual Help.
Meanwhile, Jose Rizal and Letran seek to keep their place inside the magic four as they take on dangerous Perpetual Help and Arellano University, respectively, today.
The Bombers and Knights are currently at Nos. 3 and 4 with 6-3 and 5-4 records, while the Altas and Chiefs are lurking closely behind with identical 3-6 slates.
