Regal Entertainment scored a huge victory with the Vhong Navarro-Lovi Poe comedy, Woke Up Like This!
On its first day when it was released Wednesday last week, it raked in P5 million gross and after five days it posted an accumulated P36 million and a total of P60 million on its seventh day in theaters, giving Mother Lily (Lily Y. Monteverde), Regal Entertainment matriarch enough reason to throw a victory party for the movie press for giving her a blockbuster this year.
The family movie continues to draw in crowds and receive favorable notices.
“Let’s all be happy,” said Mother Lily, “it’s toxic to be keeping negative feelings.”
“I owe a lot to the movie press,” admitted Mother Lily. “Regal won’t be where it is without the help of the movie press.”
Vhong was present with his manager, director Chito Roño, while Lovi relayed her message via a video clip (she was in Paris for the wedding of Drs. Vicki Belo and Hayden Kho last Saturday).
Cora Waddell, Yana Asistio, Raikko Mateo and the movie’s director Joel Ferrer joined in the celebration.

Wishcovery, the first on-line singing competition, was launched recently. It is a program on Wish 107.5 and aims to discover singing talents who can break into the global music arena. In effect, the search makes the FM radio as the singers’ gateway to the world.
According to the station’s top management, it is their way of expressing their support for OPM (original Pilipino music), which they have been since the station began broadcasting three years ago.
The Wishcovery team, including reactors that include songwriter/record producer Jungee Marcelo, singer and vocal coach Annie Quintos, went to key cities around the country and auditioned possible contestants to the search that begins this week.
For three months, they have listened to scores of hopefuls and trimmed the number down to 20 representing a variety of genres in pop music, though most of them if not all, are trying to be clones of singers that Filipinos hear on the radio or watch on TV.
The search will eliminate one singer each week until the five finalists have been chosen for the final showdown in November in a show hosted by Jay R and Kris Lawrence.
The weekly elimination will be held in the station’s Wish Bus, the first and only one in the Philippines, after being viewed on YouTube for voters to select their choices utilizing what it calls as “power viewing” as part of the criteria for judging.
