The Philippine government has condemned the terrorist attack in Barcelona, Spain on Thursday that killed 13 persons.
In a statement, Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Spokesperson Alan Peter Cayetano said, "the Philippines condemns in the strongest term this disturbing act of terror perpetrated against men, women and children in Barcelona."
"We stand in solidarity with the people of Catalonia and all of Spain and the rest of the world as we fight this common scourge," he further stated.
At the same time, Philippine authorities are advising Filipinos in Barcelona to remain vigilant and to remain mindful of their surroundings.
Two Filipinos of Irish descent were reportedly among the more than 100 persons who were injured after a van plowed through pedestrians in Barcelona's Las Ramblas tourist destination.
Philippine Embassy Consul General Emmanuel Fernandez, who is based in Madrid, says the Filipino-Irish victims are a father and son who were together with their family strolling along the historic district.
The boy, 5-year-old Nathaniel, sustained a serious knee injury and may need an operation.
The family came from Ireland and was in Las Ramblas to celebrate Nathaniel's birthday.
There are about 20,000 Filipinos living in Spain.
