Rival TV networks see higher ratings

Both ABS-CBN Corp. and GMA Network Inc. said Wednesday they sustained higher television ratings nationwide in July. 

Data from Kantar Media showed ABS-CBN posted a nationwide average audience share of 46 percent in July, or 12 percent higher than rival GMA’s 34 percent. 

ABS-CBN’s primetime block recorded an average audience share of 51 percent, a 19-point lead over GMA’s 32 percent.   In the morning block, ABS-CBN gained an average audience share of 40 percent in July, versus GMA’s 31 percent. 

ABS-CBN had 44 percent audience share in the noontime block, versus GMA’s 39 percent percent.  In the afternoon block, ABS-CBN had 43 percent versus GMA’s 38 percent.

GMA, meanwhile, said it ruled across all day parts in the National Urban Television Audience Measurement for July with an average total day people audience share of 43.5 percent, higher than ABS-CBN’s 37 percent based on the data from Nielsen TV Audience Measurement. 

GMA said that in Urban Luzon, it maintained a strong lead from morning to evening block with an average people audience share of 50.3 percent, besting ABS-CBN by 19.5 points. 

Nielsen uses about 900 more homes surveyed in total urban and Rural Philippines, while Kantar uses a nationwide panel size of 2,610 urban and rural homes that represent 100 percent of the total Philippine TV viewing population.
