Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista has approved City Ordinance 2587-2017, declaring a parcel of land located at 254 San Rafael Street, Barangay Old Balara as a socialized housing site for bona fide members of the Daycare Magulang Youth Ay Nagkaisa (Damayan), Inc.

The ordinance was introduced by Councilors Franz S. Pumaren and Marivic Co-Pilar. The area of the donated lot for Damayan’s socialized housing site measures 1,043 square meters.

The lot was acquired by the Quezon City government through public auction after it was not redeemed by the registered owner within the one-year redemption period, as provided for in Section 261 of Republic Act No. 7160, otherwise known as the Local Government Code of 1991.

According to the city ordinance, the property is best suited for socialized housing project for the benefit of the present occupants, who are also members of Damayan that has been occupying the property for more than 40 years.

To facilitate the improvement of the property, there was a need to declare it as Socialized Housing Site so residents could avail of various benefits and exemptions accorded to socialized housing beneficiaries.

Also, transferring the portions of the property to the Damayan beneficiaries would uplift their status from informal settlers to registered land owners.
