Lady Jet Spikers battle Maroons

HAIR Fairy-Air Force tries to get back on track as it tangles with University of the Philippines today even as Adamson and the Power Smashers clash in a duel of winless teams in the Premier Volleyball League at the Filoil Arena in San Juan.

The Lady Jet Spikers kicked off their campaign with a four-set victory over the Perlas-BanKo Spikers last July 1 but succumbed to Alyssa Valdez and the Creamline Cool Smashers last Sunday.

They, however, hope to rebound in their 4 p.m. clash with the Lady Maroons, who dropped their first two games to the Pocari Sweat and the BaliPure sides.

Air Force coach Jasper Jimenez is expected to bank on Iari Yongco, Jocemer Tapic, Mary Ann Pantino and veteran Joy Cases as the Jet Spikers face the young UP side priming up for the UAAP wars.

The Lady Falcons and the Power Smashers also lost their first two games, making their 6:30 p.m. a must-win with each side itching to wheel back into contention in the short single round robin elims of the mid-season conference of the league organized by Sports Vision.

The Power Smashers, for one, will be trying to shed off their “heartbreak team” tag after bowing to the Water Defenders and the Lady Warriors in a pair of five setters. They blew a 2-1 lead to BaliPure and failed to sustain their fightback from 0-2 down against Pocari.

But veteran coach Ernesto Pamilar is confident his wards would be able to put it all together and unleash a strong finishing kick this time against a collegiate team in the Lady Falcons, who, however, gave the Perlas Spikers a big scare before fading out in four last Sunday.

Pamilar hopes to draw solid games from Dimdim Pacres, Regine Arocha, Wyneth Eulalio, Jovelyn Prado and Katherine Villegas as they slug it out with the likes of Jessica Galanza, Christine Soyud and May Roque and 16-year-old setter Louie Romero of Adamson in a match that would keep the winner in the quarters hunt.

The games can be viewed live via streaming on www.sports.abs-cbn.com/livestream/pvl.

Meanwhile, Cignal TV seeks a third straight win and a share of the lead with newcomer Megabuilders as it squares off with Army in the 10 a.m. opener in the men’s side of the league backed by Mikasa and Asics.

Gamboa Coffee Mix and Instituto Estetico Manila mix it up in the other match at 1 p.m.
