Premier Volley League on S+A

THE 2017 season of the Premier Volleyball League resumes on Saturday with eight teams contending for the inaugural Open Conference Cup championship.

Seeing action right away are the Creamline Cool Smashers and Adamson Akari Lady Falcons at 4 p.m., followed by Perlas Spikers and the Hair Fairy Air Force Lady Jet Spikers at 6:30 p.m., to be aired LIVE from the Fil-Oil Flying V Arena in San Juan City on S+A on free TV, S+A HD on cable TV, and via livestreaming on premiervolleyballleague.com.

Back in the title hunt is Reinforced Conference champion Pocari Sweat Lady Warriors, which will be bringing back their three-headed monster in Myla Pablo, Melissa Gohing, and Jessey De Leon and their runner-up BaliPure Water Defenders, still led by Reinforced Conference Best Setter Jasmine Nabor, 2nd Best Outside Spiker Grethcel Soltones, and a much-improved Jerrili Malabanan.

The Cool Smashers will rely once more on the exploits of PVL’s first Most Valuable Player Alyssa Valdez, who is reuniting with former Ateneo teammate Jia Morado. Also returning are the Perlas Spikers led by Amy Ahomiro, Suzanne Roces, and Kat Bersola; the Power Smashers, still led by NCAA MVP Jovielyn Prado, Dimdim Pacres, and Alina Bicar; and Hairy Fairy Air Force Lady Jet Spikers, bannered by veterans Wendy Semana, Joy Cases, and Iari Yongco.

The Open Conference also features two collegiate teams: Akari-sponsored Lady Falcons, led by former Cool Smasher Jema Galanza and their new addition, former DLSU Lady Spiker Christine Joy Soyud; and the UP Lady Fighting Maroons headlined by former UAAP Rookie of the Year Isa Molde and Diana Carlos.

The teams will be guided by coaches Rico De Guzman (Lady Warriors), Roger Gorayeb (Water Defenders), Tai Bundit (Cool Smashers), Nai Muhammed (Perlas Spikers), Nes Pamilar (Power Smashers), Jasper Jimenez (Jet Spikers), Airess Padda (Lady Falcons), and Jerry Yee (Lady Maroons).
