Hyundai Asia Resources Inc., the official distributor of Hyundai vehicles in the Philippines, said vehicle sales in the first five months increased 6 percent to 14,163 units from 13,410 units it delivered a year ago, despite slower sales in May.

The company said sales in May dropped 6 percent to 2,801 units from 2,993 units in the same month last year.

Hari president and chief executive Ma. Fe Perez-Agudo said the company would continue to deliver best-in-class products and services to customers.

The company said the passenger car segment sold 9,770 units in the five-month period, up by 6 percent from 9,193 units sold in the same period in 2016.

Accent remained the company’s top-selling nameplate, with 6,299 units sold, representing a 39-percent increase from a year earlier. Elantra also performed with a 31-percent sales growth to 559 units.

Demand for light commercial vehicles went up 4 percent to 4,393 units from 4,217 units delivered a year ago, driven by demand for Grand Starex which sold 1,672 units.

Agudo said the confluence of strong economic growth, competitive auto loan rates and low inflation would continue to drive consumer appetite for vehicles.
