50 women trained to make plush toys

Fifty women from the National Housing Authority relocation site in Naic, Cavite were trained to make plush toys and pillows during a seminar conducted by Villar Social Institute for Poverty Alleviation and Governance (Villar Sipag).

“We want our women to benefit from these training programs so that they can earn without the need to leave their children behind or sacrifice their responsibilities as homemaker,” said Senator Cynthia Villar, who is director of the institute.

Villar Sipag partnered with Higos Project, a small enterprise in Naga City that aims to share skills to housewives, unemployed individuals, out-of-school youth and to organizations who want to invest in new livelihood that does not require big investments.

The handmade plush toys can be sold for P60 to P350, depending on the size and design.

The training included a demonstration from trainers and hands-on activities for the participants.

Participants were also provided with basic entrepreneurship development training, financial literacy and lessons on starting a business.
