Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre is set to make a public apology within Thursday after linking Senator Bam Aquino to a possible terrorist plot.
Aquino said he and Aguirre talked on the phone last night.
The senator could not recall if the secretary said sorry to him outright.
He just recalled that during the conversation, Aguirre had explained to him that he had gathered so many information and he got confused along the way.
Aguirre was referring to having tagged Aquino as among those who allegedly attended a meeting with some clans in Marawi City prior to the siege.
The secretary had also identified Senator Trillanes and Magdalo Party-list Representative Gary Alejano to be included in the meeting.
Aguirre earlier showed a picture of the meeting purportedly taken on May 2, 2017.
However, it was later found out that the photo was taken two years ago in Iloilo, and not in Marawi City.
Aquino was not in the picture.
Aquino and Legarda were in a social event on Wednesday night.
Legarda called Aguirre on the phone.
Then, she passed on the phone to Aguirre, who explained to Aquino the circumstances of his allegation.
Aquino told news reporters on Thursday morning that he cautioned Aguirre against believing and spreading fake news.
The senator said, whether true or not, the secretary had damaged his reputation by linking him to terrorism.
Even if Aguirre promised to make a public apology today, Aquino said he might also call for a senate investigation on the accusation Aguirre made against lawmakers.
