Duterte appoints new Sandiganbayan justice

President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed a director from the Office of the Ombudsman as Sandiganbayan associate justice.

In a May 29, 2017 transmittal letter, Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea informed Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno that the President has signed the appointment of Bayani H. Jacinto as Sandiganbayan magistrate replacing Associate Justice Roland B. Jurado who opted to retire in February this year.

Jacinto is the acting director of the Prosecution and Monitoring Unit of Ombudsman-Luzon.

The Sandiganbayan is mandated to hear criminal cases involving graft and corruption committed by government officials. The anti-graft court is composed of a presiding justice and 20 associate justices. They shall sit in seven divisions of three justices each, including the presiding justice.
