DESPITE the defection of Quezon City Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte from the Liberal Party to the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan, former House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr., will stay with LP.
The vice mayor said her father will stay at the LP.
“No, he will not move,” the younger Belmonte said in a television interview.
She said her father will retire from politics after his last term.
The older Belmonte served as mayor of Quezon City and a three-term representative of the city’s District 4.
He was speaker of the House of Representatives from 2010 to 2016.
Earlier, Lanao del Sur Rep. Ansaruddin Adiong, Quezon City Rep. Winston Castelo and Rep. Alfred Vargas, North Cotabato Rep. Nancy Catamco and Bataan Rep. Geraldine Roman jumped from the LP to the PDP-Laban.
They were joined by other members of the Nationalist People’s Coalition, Nacionalista Party and Lakas–Christian Muslim Democrats who also joined the ruling majority party.
