THE Philippine Sports Commission intends to develop a nationwide pool of young athletes.
These athletes, who are aged 14 years old and below, will help increase the talent of the national pool.
National training director Marc Edward Velasco said this after the Philippine Sports Institute set up a training camp at the Puerto Princesa City Coliseum in Palawan.
Velasco said that so far, they have subjected 50 potential children to a battery of physical and physical tests for profiling.
“We are gathering data that can help the national sports associations tap the best available Filipino talents in the sport,” said Velasco.
In conducting the tests, the PSI facilitators have familiarized 39 physical education teachers from the Department of Education’s regional office on how to conduct such tests.
The camp is part of the PSI’s Sports Mapping Action Research Talent ID program, which is supported by the PSC,
The program will go to Vigan City for the Luzon leg next week, and then to Tacloban before the end of the month.
PSI coaches and teachers from the Deped measured the physical features of each participant.
