National training director Marc Edward Velasco said the request from the LGUs vary and the government sports agency is doing its best to meet the needs.

“I don’t think the PSC had this much program requests before to fulfill within a short period of time,” said Velasco.

During the meeting, the executive board of the PSC identified six missions that the agency needs to accomplish for the next five years, as well as 17 programs.

“We have a clearer direction in the next five years and two months,” said PSC chairman William “Butch” Ramirez.

Ramirez said it is now the PSC’s first mission is  to enhance its capability and accountability to lead, manage, implement and assess sports programs in the country.

Its second mission involved sports awareness, which is to make the Filipino aware of their role in sports as a vehicle for personal and community development.

On the other hand, the PSC is making plans to make the staging of the Philippine National Games and the Batang Pinoy national games a biennial event.

Sports officials are thinking of holding the regional eliminations of the multi-sport competitions once every two years.

Stretching the competitions to a two year period will help the LGUs plan out their grassroots programs and participation in national meets.
