THE Philippine National Police on Tuesday launched an online firearms registration system that it hopes will ease the burden of people wanting to register their firearms.

Before the online registration system, all those wanting to own a firearm and have it registered had to go to Camp Crame.

Chief Supt. Cesar Hawthorne Binag said all applications to own and register firearms had been possible starting on Tuesday.

He said applicants will have to access www.onlineltopf.pnp and follow instructions.

He said the system was developed by the PNP Information Technology Management Service.

“This process will be convenient, efficient and will get rid of corruption,” Binag said.

He said there were about 1.7 million registered firearms nationwide.

A license to own and carry a firearm is valid for two years, while a gun registration is good for four years.

Gun owners may now apply for a license to own and carry a firearm by registering with onlineltopf.pnp.gov.ph using their NBI clearance ID number or other government-issued identification cards.
