Bongbong not offered DILG post–Duterte

THERE is no standing offer for losing vice presidential candidate and former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos for him to take the post as Interior chief, President Rodrigo Duterte said Tuesday, only hours after he fired DILG Secretary Ismael Sueno over allegations of corruption.

“I don’t think (Bongbong) would abandon his election protest against declared Vice President Leni Robredo,” the President said in a chance interview at Fort Bonifacio in Taguig.

Duterte added he was “still scouting for another talent” to replace Sueno in the powerful Cabinet position.

An opposition lawmaker, Akbayan Rep. Tom Villarin said Tuesday the firing of Sueno as Interior secretary opened the possibility Marcos Jr., Duterte’s close friend, might be appointed to the Cabinet.

Marcos, who narrowly lost the vice presidency to then Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo in the May polls, is rumored to take over the DILG after the one-year appointment ban on defeated candidates.
