PH 8th among nations for ideal business

THE Philippines ranks 8th among countries with an ideal business environment for women to prosper, the latest Mastercard Index of Women Entrepreneurs survey for 2017 revealed. 

Despite having a factor-driven, lower middle income economy, the Philippines ranked 8th among top 20 markets in the world, gaining an overall index of 68.4.

The American multinational financial services company noted that along with Vietnam (ranked 19th), both countries attained “surprise with higher than expected index scores” signifying high Women Business Ownership representation.

Women in New Zealand hold first place, followed by Canada, United States, Sweden, Singapore, Belgium, Australia. The Philippines, United Kingdom, and Thailand. 

Also in the 11th to 20th spot are Denmark, Portugal, Spain, Israel, Botswana, Switzerland, Hong Kong SAR, France, Vietnam, and Costa Rica. 

The same list noted that the Filipinas have the highest opportunities for women’s advancement as leaders, professionals, entrepreneurs and labor force contributors compared to other countries, having a top component score of 65.5. 

Presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella welcomed the results of the latest global survey, reiterating the administration’s commitment of greater opportunities for Filipinas.
