During the meeting, Ramirez led discussions on the establishment of a Physical Fitness and Sports Development Council.

Ramirez told his audience that the government recognizes the role of sports as an important component in nation-building.

“We’re on the right track in crafting community sports and grassroots programs,” remarked Ramirez.

The meeting was aimed at gathering support from the LGUs to establish functional sports development councils in their localities, in line with the staging of the Batang Pinoy and Philippine National Games later this year.

The discussions will help prepare the LGUs in developing sound sports programs that are synched with the national sports development plan and calendar.

PSC Commissioners Charles Maxey and Ramon Fernandez joined Ramirez in Cebu.

The establishment of the Council is in line with President Rodrigo Duterte’s marching orders to bring sports to the countryside and strengthen grassroots sports.
