The Quezon City Council has passed a resolution supporting a draft congressional bill increasing the salaries of public school teachers and other government employees.
Resolution No. SP-6914, S-2016 authored by Councilor Melencio “Bobby” Castelo calls for the passage of House Bill 56 which also calls for the increase in the payment of the Personnel Economic Relief Allowance of government employees.
The resolution said the grant of the increase is necessary so as to support the meager income received by public school teachers and government employees, who often resort to borrowing money either from government financial institutions or private lenders.
A smaller take-home pay also contributes in the exodus of a growing number of government workers seeking greener pastures abroad due to higher salaries offered by foreign employers.
