MARIVELES, Bataan—This fast-rising industrial town is gearing for a spirited 72nd Liberation Day celebration, as its leaders headed by Mayor AJ Concepcion prepare a string of activities to delight residents and visitors.
Celebrated every fourth Sunday of February, Liberation Day is also the town fiesta celebration of Mariveles. It falls on Feb. 26 this year.
“Aside from the usual activities we’ve done in the past during the term of former mayor and father of the incumbent mayor, Jesse Concepcion, like the Miss Mariveles, Ginang Buntis, and Chess Tournament, there will be additional events this year,” said Councilor Tito Catipon.
Sectoral shows and boat races are also slated, Catipon said, with activities every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday starting February 3, to culminate on the last Sunday of February, which is the Liberation Day.
Concepcion has led meetings with other local officials, municipal department heads, and sectoral leaders in preparation of the Liberation Day celebration. As in the past, local tourists are expected to witness this year’s Liberation Day activities, the mayor said.
Mariveles hosts the Freeport Area of Bataan where manufacturers abound, and hosts beautiful beaches on its western side.
