A REVIEW of the constitution and bylaws of the Philippine Olympic Committee is in the offing.
A three-man committee has been formed for this task. It will find out the changes that need to be done.
POC legal counsel Ramon Malinao will head the panel, which was formed some two months after the POC held its elections.
POC president Jose “Peping” Cojuangco Jr. said, during the POC General Assembly at the Wack Wack Golf and Country Club in Mandaluyong last Wednesday, disagreements which took place at that time will be tackled during the review.
At that time, the camp of boxing chief Ricky Vargas sued the POC after he was disqualified from running as president.
Their group even filed a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO), but the Pasig Regional Trial Court did not issue any.
Because of their absence in numerous meetings of the POC General Assembly, the three-man election panel of the POC, disqualified boxing chief Ricky Vargas and cycling president Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino from seeking the POC’s two top posts.
“What caused this disagreements will be clarified. Liliwanagin ito. What it means and what we want,” said Cojuangco.
He added that more clarifications will shed light on what will make an official of a national sports association to be a candidate.
On the other hand, POC vice president Joey Romasanta provisions will also be made on the eligibility of the athlete who can be part of the POC athletes commission. Peter Atencio
This is to synchronize to an announcement from the International Olympic Committee that the members of the athletes commission necessarily need to be an Olympian.
