Perennial basketball supporter Smart, found a willing ally in a chicken company, Chooks-to-Go, to support the country’s favorite “eagles” in their quest for glory in the global stage.
Named after the indigenous Philippine eagle, Gilas Pilipinas resumes its quest for an Olympic appearance beginning with the Southeast Basketball tournament in Malaysia next year.
Then, they will take on the best in Asia in the 2017 FIBA Asia Cup and more in international tournaments, including the 2020 Tokyo Olympics qualifying events.
Expect Chooks-to-Go to be a familiar figure when the new batch of Gilas, composed of veterans and young turks, begin to fly for glory again.
“We are extremely honoured to be given the chance to participate in this glorious quest of MVP and Smart to regain Philippine basketball supremacy in Asia. We are optimistic that Gilas Pilipinas will qualify in the 200 Olympics and wow the world with the Filipino brand of basketball,” said Ronald Mascarinas, president of Bounty Agro Venture’s Inc., producers of Chooks-to-Go brand of roasted chicken.
As part of the partnership program to tap more Filipino fans, especially from the millenials, Mascarinas unveiled the #ManokNgBayan as digital slogan in sharing more information about the Gilas activities.
The members of the 21-man Gilas pool, led by the original Gilas 2007 members Dondon Hontiveros, Ranidel de Ocampo and Sonny Thoss, were introduced during the launch rites, aptly called Manok ng Bayan, at the Shangrila in Makati.
