2,000 rally to cooperate

OVER 2,000 people, mostly tenants, stormed the National Housing Authority in Quezon City not to stage a protest but to “cooperate” on how the government could help them avail of a low-cost shelter program.

In an interview, architect Luis Bacamante, division manager under the office of Assistant General Manager Froilan Kampitan, said those who flocked to the NHA central office were not informal settlers, but tenants and extended families who all live in one household beyond the nuclear family.

He, however, clarified that his division, along with the information division and resettlement development services department, yesterday just issued a housing information form not considered an application for the agency’s socialized housing program, but to enable housing officials to “study a different market for non-informal settlers and the non-marginalized sector.”
