LINGAYEN—The Muslim community in Pangasinan will soon have a solemn resting place for their departed loved ones that will be built in a two-hectare lot in Laguit Padilla, Bugallon town.

Gov. Amado Espino III, in a meeting with top Pangasinan Integrated Muslim Assembly (Pima) officials, recently vowed to support the establishment of a public cemetery for Muslims in a lot donated by Oscar Angeles, a philanthropist from Mangaldan.

The sole burial ground of Muslims in Alaminos City is now congested and they are calling for a new public cemetery.

Espino likewise vowed to sustain the good partnership of the provincial government and the Muslim communities in the province in development advocacies and initiatives.

Pima president Guia Macmod, on behalf of about 60,000 Muslims in the province, expressed their gratitude to the lot donor and the provincial government.

“The proposed site for our new public cemetery is also in a strategic location in the central part of the province,” Macmod said.

“I am doing this because I want to help my Muslim friends,” said Angeles during the meeting, as he disclosed that the processing of legal documents and records for the transfer of rights of the property to be donated is jointly undertaken by the provincial assessor’s and legal offices.

Macmod has also lobbied for funding from the governor for the construction of a road leading to the proposed site of cemetery.

Espino’s meeting with Pima and the family of the donor was held during the callers’ day of the governor.
