THE Resorts World Manila Masters is pushing the envelope in its fourth edition, planning to beef up the line-up of participants and boasting of a $1-million prize pot, making it the Philippines’ richest golf tournament.
Slated from Nov. 10 to 13 at the Manila Southwoods Golf and Country Club, the RWM Masters also plans to invite the big names to the tournament, such as world no. 1 Jason Day and other Olympic golfers.
“(Day) is on everyone’s wish list right now. Of course, him being half-Filipino, we’re really excited to get him here. But we can’t comment on his participation right now,” said Cho Minn Thant, Associate Director Tour and Player Affairs, Asian Tour on Wednesday during the press conference launching the Masters at the Marriott Hotel.
Stephen Reilly, the Chief Operating Officer of Resorts World Manila, also believes that the RWM Masters will continue to establish the sport as a highly popular event among players and fans.
“It remains our mission to keep driving the development of this great game in the Philippines and across Asia through the successful staging of the RWM Masters,” said Really
Last year, Thai rookie Natipong Srithong landed his maiden Asian Tour victory after securing a thrilling one-shot win over South African Jbe Kruger at the Jack Nicklaus-designed Masters course at Manila Southwoods.
Victory was achieved in what was only his fourth start as a professional golfer on the region’s premier Tour.
The Resorts World Manila Masters also celebrated worthy winners in China’s Liang Wen-chong, who claimed a pulsating play-off triumph over Thailand’s Prom Meesawat in 2013, as well as veteran Mardan Mamat of Singapore, who marched to a stylish six-shot success in 2014.
