THE Department of Budget and Management is studying a proposal to increase the salaries of soldiers and teachers, Malacañang said Sunday.
“I have talked to DBM Secretary Ben Diokno and this is being studied by the DBM,” Communications Secretary Martin Andanar told dzRB radio.
President Rodrigo Duterte had promised to increase the salaries of soldiers and public school teachers during a briefing with military officials in Camp Nakar in Lucena City on Thursday.
Increasing the salaries of teachers, the police and members of the military had been one of his promises during the campaign for this year’s elections.
He said the salary increases would start in August and continue until the amount was doubled.
Diokno has said the increase in salaries in the Armed Forces will be difficult to implement because of other pressing financial matters”•not least of which is the government’s huge debt to the military pension fund.
