The Ombudsman has filed charges of graft, falsification of public documents and violation of government procurement laws against Former Vice President Jejomar Binay at the Sandiganbayan.
The charges are in connection with the alleged overpriced construction of Makati City Hall Building 2.
A previous report by the Commission on Audit stated that the original project of a nine-storey parking building was supposed to cost P 283-million but the amount ballooned to P 2.8-billion.
The Commission also noted the upgraded plan lacked an approved building plan and an approved cost.
In response, Binay’s Spokesman Joey Salgado criticized Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales.
He said a new administration has set in yet the Ombudsman is still bent on protecting the leaders of the Liberal Party (LP).
Salgado said it must be recalled that LP leaders are facing charges for the anomalous Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP).
Salgado described the charges filed against Binay as a diversionary tactic meant to shield Morales’ alleged patrons against political indignation.
