Love is forever young with Piolo, Coleen, and Dawn In Love Me Tomorrow.
For fans of the three stars on the ABS-CBN lot, the long wait is finally over. Piolo Pascual, Coleen Garcia, and Dawn Zulueta team up for the very first time in Star Cinema’s upcoming romantic drama.
Directed by 2015’s mainstream breakthrough director Gino Santos from a screenplay developed and written Jeff Stelton and G3 San Diego, Love Me Tomorrow is a timely and empowering film that celebrates the enduring power of true love.
Love Me Tomorrow is a love story involving JC (Pascual) who is on a journey in search of himself, a conflicted young woman Janine (Garcia), and Christy (Zulueta), a woman who rediscovers herself and what she is capable of.
The movie asks if love could truly bridge gaps in age, status, and other aspects of life among the central characters.
Fans are in for a very special treat with this much-awaited big-screen collaboration among Gino Garcia, Piolo, Coleen and Dawn, arguably three of the most talented and most accomplished artists in the industry today.
Piolo is a popular film actor who is also very visible on television. His most recent works include such box-office smash hits such as 2014’s Starting Over Again in which he starred opposite multi-media star Toni Gonzaga. In 2015’s The Breakup Playlist, he was paired with Pop Star Princess Sarah Geronimo, and in Hele Sa Hiwagang Hapis, which received wide critical and international acclaim this year, he was with fellow ABS-CBN talent John Lloyd Cruz.
Coleen, on the other hand, is dubbed by both fans and critics as the “Millennial Lolita” due to her performances in the 2014 indie film #Y and most recently, Ex With Benefits in which she starred with Derek Ramsay. It should be noted that this is Coleen’s third film with Gino Santos who also directed her in both #Y and Ex With Benefits.
Dawn is a seasoned performer having received awards for her performance. She made an amazing comeback when she starred in ABS-CBN’s phenomenal primetime series Walang Hanggan in 2012. She starred in a number of unforgettable supporting roles in such blockbuster films such as 2011’s Catch Me, I’m In Love and 2014’s She’s Dating The Gangster until 2015 when she starred opposite Richard Gomez and Bea Alonzo in the smash box-office drama The Love Affair.
Together, Direk Gino, Piolo, Coleen, and Dawn will weave a tale that shows how love could be forever young in surpassing the frivolities of flirtation and physical attraction. Love Me Tomorrow is showing in cinemas nationwide starting May 25.
The race to no.1 continues
The running joke among people working on television and the members of the press is: TV5 is currently the no. 2 network and why? Well, ABS-CBN and GMA Network are both claiming the no. 1 position.
Naturally, that joke doesn’t elicit much laughter, especially from those who take the competition among networks as a serious business. Earlier this year, both the Kapamilya and Kapuso networks announced separately that they lead in nationwide ratings for January to December 2015 based on data from two different ratings providers.
According to Kantar Media, ABS-CBN ruled nationwide ratings with an average nationwide share of 43 percent versus GMA’s 36 percent.
Meanwhile, rival GMA, citing data from Nielsen, said it was the leading channel last year with 35.4 percent, higher than ABS-CBN’s 34.9 percent among urban households.
However, the networks’ financial data tell a different story.
We were able to compare the financial figures of ABS-CBN and GMA for 2015, and we arrived at some very interesting realizations.
ABS-CBN had a net income of P2.545 billion and consolidated revenues of P38.278 billion. GMA closed the year with a net income of P2.126 billion and gross revenues of P13.727 billion.
At first glance, ABS-CBN’s figures are bigger than GMA’s. But, ABS-CBN’s net income was actually only about 1.2 times bigger than GMA. This despite ABS-CBN’s consolidated revenues bigger than GMA.
The total operating expenses of ABS-CBN reached a whopping P34.686 billion, definitely higher than GMA’s P10.745 billion in 2015. While both companies’ expenses were higher than the year before, ABS-CBN’s rose by 14 percent while there was a minimal two percent increase in GMA’s spending.
All things considered, these numbers are indicative of how a company manages its earnings and costs, which is driven by a lot of factors, ratings included. So, you can actually tell which network is more profitable than the other. And it appears GMA implemented stronger financial management and incurred more efficient costs also.
Especially now that it’s been a lucrative year so far for these broadcast companies, it would be interesting to note what the trend will be like in the next couple of months.
