STA. ROSA, Nueva Ecija—Three persons, including a 38-year-old pregnant woman, were killed when the tricycle they were riding on collided with a sports utility vehicle along the highway here yesterday.
Senior Supt. Manuel Cornel, provincial police director, identified those killed as Mary Jane Garcia, 38, her daughter Juvy Ann, 14, both of Barangay Bagong Silang, Cabiao; and tricycle driver Mark Anthony Gabriel, 22, of Barangay Soledad, Sta. Rosa.
Mary Jane, who is three months pregnant, and the two others died on-the-spot from head injuries.
SPO4 Jun Adalem, investigator of the Sta. Rosa police, said that the accident happened at around 4:11 a.m. at Soledad.
Adalem said the tricycle, with license plate 9603-RS was cruising along the road when it was rammed by a speeding Mitsubishi Montero with license plate ABI-5224 driven by Army Capt. Jose Reyes Jr.
The tricycle was wrecked from the impact.
Reyes, who surrendered to police, said he did not see the tricycle approaching.
Adalem said the area where the accident took place is accident-prone.
