GMA Network, the most internationally-awarded broadcast company in the country, joins big names in the global media and entertainment industry after its global arm GMA International (GMAI) brought home three top awards from the 2017 National Association for Multi-Ethnicity in Communications (NAMIC) Excellence in Multicultural Marketing Awards (EMMA) in New York.

The EMMA honors marketing efforts that are excellently designed for culturally diverse audiences and customers in North America. The prestigious award-giving body held its awarding ceremonies at the Marriot Marquis in New York on Sept. 26.

Winning first place in the television category is the “Becoming Pinoy: Sameera Aguilar” episode. The special short-form content featured a Filipino mother living in Dubai, who made sure to pass on to her half-Pinoy/half-Emirati children Filipino culture and traditions despite being born and raised in a foreign land. “Becoming Pinoy” aired worldwide via GMA Pinoy TV.

GMA likewise reigned supreme in the Social Media category, winning first place for the Social Media Take-Over: Alden Richards online event. The Pambansang Bae brought online users from all over the world with him during his Singapore adventure through GMAI’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages.  Exclusive content and live videos reached almost two million people and yielded more than 300,000 worth of engagements. Alden has amassed a huge and devoted following worldwide as one-half of the phenomenal Filipino love team, “AlDub”.

In the Diversity Awareness category, GMA bagged first place for its “Becoming Pinoy: Reggie Lee” entry, an episode of a series of short-form content on GMA Pinoy TV that profiles Filipinos born and raised in different cultures and those of mixed ancestry.

GMAI’s First Vice President and Head of Operations Joseph Francia expressed pride at securing an EMMA not just for the network but also for the global Filipinos. “We at GMAI are grateful to be among some of the most well-known brands in the global media and entertainment industry to be recognized with EMMAs this year,” said Francia. “Viewing habits are changing and we are challenged every day to reach and engage our various audiences through relevant and resonant messaging on television, social media, and other outlets. These awards validate the efforts of our teams and partners in Manila and other territories where GMA programming is enjoyed. We share these awards with all our faithful subscribers of GMA Pinoy TV, GMA Life TV and GMA News TV International around the world,” he added.

The EMMA is an annual competition organized by NAMIC, the premier organization that educates, advocates and empowers for multi-ethnic diversity in communications industry worldwide. Since its launch in 2005, GMA Pinoy TV has consistently earned recognition from the award-giving body.
