‘Samuel’ weakens, veers toward Iloilo, Palawan

Tropical depression “Samuel” weakened slightly after making five landfalls in the Visayas on Wednesday morning.

The storm is forecast to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Thursday night or Friday morning.

In a 2 pm bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said the weather system was estimated 70 kilometers west-southwest of Iloilo City, Iloilo, or 120 kilometers east-southeast of Cuyo, Palawan.

Packing maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of 65 kph, it was moving west-southwest at 40 kph.

The following areas were placed under storm signal no. 1: Romblon, the southern part of Oriental Mindoro; the southern part of Occidental Mindoro; Palawan, including Cuyo Island and the Calamian Group of Islands; the northern part of Negros Occidental; Guimaras; Iloilo; Capiz; Aklan and Antique.
