Vice President Sara Duterte has issued a statement confirming her resignation as Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary.

“To our countrymen, my resignation is not out of weakness but brought out of true compassion for our teachers and Filipino youth,” Duterte said in Filipino during a press conference.

The former Education Secretary has since given her 30-day notice to ensure the “proper and orderly transition for the benefit of the next secretary.”

“Although I will no longer manage the department, we will continue to promote the quality of education that our Filipinos deserve,” Duterte said.

“Even though I am not the standing Education Secretary, I will remain a mother who monitors and stands up for the welfare of each teacher and student in the Philippines,” she added.

She dedicated her message to a resilient Philippines: “Everything we do is for God, the country, and every Filipino family.”
