Rebel returnee

Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez and Datu Gibang Apoga, legendary leader of the Ata Manobo tribe, along with military and LGU officials of Davao del Norte, release white balloons to symbolize the surrender of the influential rebel leader during a peace rally in Talaingod, Davao del Norte. Datu Gibang waged an armed struggle against the government for 28 years. He surrendered along with 150 of his followers after negotiations with military leaders. The surrender was facilitated by the office of Speaker Alvarez.
