GCash’s GForest reaches more than 20 million users

Mobile wallet app GCash has reached an impressive milestone, with its GForest feature garnering a total of 20,107, 356 users as of this writing.

First launched in 2019 as part of its sustainability efforts, the app’s GForest feature allows users to convert their transactions on the platform—such as sending money, bank transfers, paying bills, and cashing in—into green energy points.

These points can be used to plant and grow a virtual tree, such as Loop-Root Mangroves at the Tañon Strait, Coconut trees in Socsargen, Dwarf Coconut in General Santos, Coffee trees across the country, and Pine trees in Benguet. For every virtual tree planted, GCash will plant an actual tree, and users will receive a certificate for their chosen plant.

Since its launch, GForest has planted more than 2.5 million actual trees with its partner organizations, including Kabang Kalikasan ng Pilipinas Foundation, Inc. (WWF-Philippines), Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI), Ayala Land Inc. (ALI), Friends of Hope Inc. (HOPE), Century Pacific Food Inc. (Century), Philippine Coffee Board Inc., WWF, and Culion Foundation. These organizations work directly with local farming communities to plant seedlings and monitor their growth.
