LRTA rolls out cooling rooms for commuters

To protect commuters from extreme temperatures, the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) has launched  Passenger Cooling Rooms at all LRT-2 stations last May 4, 2026.

These facilities are dedicated to passengers experiencing heat-related discomfort, such as dizziness or headaches.

“To ensure everyone has access to relief, we kindly ask that usage be limited to 30–60 minutes per person,” LRTA said.

“Passengers who feel unwell or need assistance are advised to approach station personnel,” it added.

Through this initiative, the LRTA aims to promote commuter welfare and provide immediate relief during periods of intense heat.

Meanwhile, in celebration of Labor Day, the LRTA provided free rides to 34,961 passengers of LRT Line 2 on May 1, 2026, as part of its recognition of the important role of Filipino workers in nation-building.

The libreng sakay was implemented during peak hours, from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, offering relief to thousands of commuters.

LRTA Administrator Hernando Cabrera emphasized that the program serves as a meaningful expression of appreciation for the dedication, resilience, and contributions of Filipino workers across various sectors.

He added that the free ride initiative was implemented smoothly across all LRT Line 2 stations, ensuring safe, orderly, and convenient travel for passengers throughout the designated hours.

LRTA reaffirms its commitment to providing reliable and commuter-centered services, while continuing to support initiatives that uplift and recognize the Filipino workforce.
