REHABILITATION of the historic Baguio Athletic Bowl, a seven-hectare sports complex inside Burnham Park, is now underway following its closure by the city government in November last year for major renovations.
The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) has partnered with the City Government of Baguio to help restore and upgrade the facility.
PSC chairman Patrick Gregorio and Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong recently signed a Memorandum of Agreement formalizing the establishment of a Regional Training Center for the Cordilleras at the venue.
With PSC support, the city aims to revive the Athletic Bowl as the primary site for athletics competitions, training camps, and major sporting events in the region.
The complex features an eight-lane synthetic rubberized track oval, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, and four tennis courts.
The swimming pool requires repairs to meet international standards, while the tennis courts are managed by the Baguio Tennis Club.
Gregorio said the partnership reflects a shared vision of developing a safe, well-equipped training sanctuary for athletes, coaches, and national sports associations. He added that the PSC continues to collaborate with local government units nationwide to establish high-performance hubs tailored to specific sports disciplines.
