WORK has begun on the development of training venue for beach volleyball inside the Diliman campus of University of Philippines in Quezon City.
Philippine Sports Commission chairman Patrick Gregorio said this as the government sports agency got involved with the plans to put it up with Philippine National Volleyball Federation and the UP College of Human Kinetics.
“UP has started construction of the national training center for beach volleyball inside the UP-Diliman campus, and with the help of the UP-CHK,” said Gregorio.
Presently, there is no dedicated beach volleyball sand courts available within the main campus.
Gregorio explained that having them available in the future to the public, the athletes and students will help spur the growth of the sport.
“They have land, and as a State University, the PSC can plan in their efforts for sports development,” added Gregorio.
The existing volleyball courts inside the UP campus are for indoor volleyball
Other facilities inside the Diliman campus include the track and field oval, the football pitch, the UP-CHK gymnastics for basketball, volleyball and badminton.
There’s also the football pitch and the swimming, the tennis courts and the baseball field.
Gregorio also said there are plans to rehabilitate existing tennis courts to international standards, with the support of the Philippine Tennis Association.
