Black comedy action thriller dominates Critics Choice Awards

Politically charged drama One Battle After Another led the winners at the 31st Critics Choice Awards on Sunday, taking three trophies, including best picture.

Paul Thomas Anderson earned best director and best adapted screenplay honors for the film, which topped the awards handed out by North America’s largest critics group.

Anderson’s film also went home as the best adapted screenplay winner.

Timothée Chalamet won best actor for Marty Supreme, while Jessie Buckley took best actress for Hamnet, results that could boost both performers ahead of the Oscars.

Chalamet and Buckley claimed the top acting prizes, while Jacob Elordi won best supporting actor for Frankenstein and Amy Madigan earned best supporting actress for Weapons. KPop Demon Hunters was named best animated feature, and The Secret Agent won best foreign language film.

Television honors were led by The Pitt, which won best drama series, with Noah Wyle taking best actor in a drama series and Rhea Seehorn winning best actress in a drama series for Pluribus.

The Studio won best comedy series, with Seth Rogen named best actor in a comedy series and Jean Smart taking best actress for Hacks. Adolescence won best limited series, with Stephen Graham named best actor in a limited series, while Sarah Snook won best actress in a limited series for All Her Fault. AFP
