An Air Canada plane caught fire after skidding down the runway at the Halifax airport, shutting down the facility, according to reports.
All of the 97 passengers were safe and off-loaded by bus, according to authorities.
Air Canada Flight 2259 had just arrived from St. John’s, Newfoundland when one of the plane’s tires malfunctioned and triggered a fire that spread across part of the aircraft.
Emergency response teams quickly mobilized to handle the situation.
In a statement, airport authorities confirmed the emergency and assured the public that a thorough investigation was underway to determine the exact cause of the landing gear failure.
The incident was the third aircraft mishap to happen this month.
